March 15 Tax Deadlines: Corporate Tax Filings & Extensions

  • Mar 16
  • 1 min read
Sticky note on a calendar reads "FILE TAX RETURN!" in black text. Dates in black and red. Urgent reminder mood.

The March 15 tax deadline (moved to March 17 for 2025 since the 15th falls on a Saturday) is critical for businesses. Here’s what’s due:

Federal Tax Deadlines (March 17, 2025)

  • S Corporations (Form 1120-S) – S corps must file their tax returns or request an extension using Form 7004.

  • Partnerships (Form 1065) – Partnerships must file their tax returns or extend with Form 7004.

Filing Form 7004 grants an automatic 6-month extension, moving your new deadline to September 15, 2025. However, any taxes owed must still be paid by March 17 to avoid penalties.

North Carolina Tax Deadlines (March 17, 2025)

  • S Corporations & Partnerships (Form CD-419) – North Carolina does NOT require a separate extension filing for state taxes if you are approved for a federal extension. If you need more time, file Form CD-419 to get a 6-month extension.
